My dear friend and colleague Julio Zúñiga and I created this crazy project together specially for a music group from Montreal, that we both love, called No Hay Banda. It’s a complex spatial happening for musicians in animal masks, instruments, objects, electronics, public and tape. The Green Dragon solo is performed by Felix Del Tredici. Other starring animals and creatures are: panda - Geneviève Liboiron, squirrel - Émilie Girard-Charest, golden wolf - Noam Bierstone, kangaroo - Daniel Áñez, the bird - Julio Zúñiga, yellow dragon - Elena Rykova, white dog - Max Murray, butler - Lorenzo Trojani, the Monster - Serge Modular Synth.
Our piece locationally distributed all along the way to the concert hall, it migrates together with public transitioning into the concert hall. Several acoustic spaces are involved and communicate with one another. It starts as a happening on the stairs*, continues in the hallway turning into a weird exhibition of animals making music. Every spectator is free to choose their own way to explore this live “museum” and create their unique musical experience. At a certain point, the empty concert hall becomes alive calling for attention with the help of a quad system playing a prerecorded tape that we made with Julio when playing with Serge Modular Synth. The interaction between the animals and electronics comes into play. Step by step, animals are answering the call and transition to the hall bringing public with them without a single word, just by re-locating musical events, so the public follows naturally. At the end everyone witnesses a fight between The Green Dragon and the Monster and…
And remember: it’s all a tape recording, it is an illusion.*
